Hold My Beer
Day 5: Portland 4th of July

Day 5: 0 Miles.  Portland

Today was a lot of fun.  I got to sleep in for the first time on the trip.  My uncle heard on NPR that drinking at least 7 cups of coffee a day can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and I am convinced by the amount of coffee we drank today we will never have memory problems.

We decided to go on the breakfast version of a pub crawl.  No alcohol required.  Instead we cruised around town drinking coffee and eating 2 rounds of breakfast.  We started here at the Waffle Window.

I think San Francisco can use one of these.  It is a window that stands at the back of a breakfast restaurant and sells only creative versions of waffles.  I had the 3 Bee’s, Bacon, Bree and Basil.  Was actually pretty good.  This is located on Hawthorne street which seems to be the hive of the world’s hipster population.  Can’t say I am a big hipster fan, but apparently I like their waffles.

Our second round of breakfast was held at The Tin Shed.  Cool spot outdoors with serve yourself coffee and yes, a few more hipsters.  In this pic is my Aunt Cathy and Cousin Dan.  Dan and Cathy both race cars and are taking me to Portland International Raceway tomorrow to fool around at the track.  Some race experience will be helpful for another venture of mine, The 24hours of Lemons race in August. www.rehabracing.blogspot.com

This is my Uncle Al, yes, drinking coffee.  I guess this is what they do here in Portland.  That and play with illegal fireworks which is on the schedule for tonight
