Day 4: 225 Miles Coos Bay, Or. | Portland, Or.

Day 4 was a fun ride. Some windy roads going up the coast to Portland. Outside of Coos Bay were a lot of cool bridges and tunnels. I decided to maximize my amount of ride on the coast considering that I will be headed inland soon and will likely see no more ocean on this trip. Although it is considered a coastal ride, you do not actually come into sight range of the ocean too often. More often the road is set back from the ocean about a mile or so. Stupid trees.

Along the way I stopped by the sea lion caves. These are apparently the largest sea lion caves in the world. You ride in an elevator a couple hundred feet underground where there is a little viewing area of the actual cave. Maybe being a California native has made sea lions less exciting, but the overall experience was pretty boring. Interesting odor as well. I’m glad I stopped by and took a peek, but was eager to get back on the road.
The rest of the drive flows in and out of cute little coastal town. By the time I hit Newport, I was ready to head inland to Portland.
I arrived at my Aunt and Uncle’s house around 3pm. They live in a cool Portland neighborhood right next to a big forest/park. We took the dog for a walk and passed by this neighbor’s house. The sign on the wall says: Hippies Use Backdoor.

I had a nice night hanging out with the family. My cousin Dan joined us and we went to the comedy club where my Uncle performs.
